Unless you've been living under a rock, you've most definitely heard of some of the wacky things that working models do to stay skinny. You know, like stop eating for weeks before big shows or choose to eat tissues to feel full. Well, as if that wasn't gross enough, Eddie Murphy's daughter, model Bria Murphy, revealed some other gross model secrets to staying stick thin on Good Morning America Tuesday morning. Aside from models being addicted to anorexia and drugs, they also use this tactic to stay runway ready.
"I've heard of people eating the cotton balls with the orange juice," Bria confessed. "They dip it in the orange juice and then eat the cotton balls to help them feel full because the cotton's not doing anything. It's just dissolving."
Oh my gosh. I think I just gagged.
What I do understand: The pressure. Being a runway model, there is a LOT of pressure on you to stay a certain size, maintain a certain body type, and look a certain way. If you aren't, you could lose out on big money, jobs, and advancing in your career.
What I don't understand, though, is how you could force yourself to ingest such ... grossness. Sure there are some crazy things that women do to lose weight, whether it be a 30-day juice cleanse, wearing a girdle day and night a la Jessica Alba, or eating foods of one specific color ONLY every day of the week a la Christina Aguilera. But we're talking cotton balls here, people! The same things you remove nail polish with!
Aren't there OTHER healthier ways to keep your body trim? Who am I kidding, I know there are. It's called exercise, and vegetables, and I mean why not opt for celery if you wanna burn more calories than you're ingesting? At what point are modeling agencies and agents going to step in and stop this craziness? I can't imagine any normal human being feels comfortable standing by and watching this wretchedness unfold.
Have you ever heard of this? What are the craziest things you've eaten trying to lose weight?
