When it comes to eating healthy, we all have different motivating factors. Sometimes it's because we wanna drop a few pounds, sometimes it's because vegetables make us feel less gross than a dinner of French fries and chicken fingers. For Gwyneth Paltrow, she changed her diet for medical reasons. The actress told Glamour UK that years ago, blood tests revealed she had several serious problems, and was told the best way to heal them was to eat better.
I've always known that Gwynny was a hardcore health freak, but I didn't know that it was because she had so many medical problems. The actress revealed that she had a benign tumor on her ovary that had to be removed, an anemia, hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, her liver was congested, and she was vitamin-D deficient.
I'll admit it, for a while now I've poked fun at Gwyneth for her super healthy attitude. Every time I splurge for the organic goods at Whole Foods, my friends and I jokingly wonder if this is how it feels to shop like Gwyneth Paltrow (or at least her assistant). But knowing that she had so many health complications and that changing her diet has made such a dramatic difference, that's impressive.
Sure, so many of us can be told by a doctor or other physician that doing one thing or another can better our health. But the fact is that unless you follow through with medical advice, things aren't going to get better. Gwyneth took her health into her own hands because she knew she had to.
I've been in a similar situation before. When I was overweight, my doctor told me I needed to shed pounds and get a healthier BMI because I was putting myself at risk. I worked toward the goal, I made changes, and to this day I feel better about myself eating and keeping healthy because I know that it's what's best for me. Kudos to Gwyneth for making the positive changes. I promise I'll stop getting on your case now. At least a little bit.
Have you ever changed your diet for medical reasons? Did you know about Gwyneth's past?
