Jenelle Evans’ Latest Health Issue Is Nothing to Take Lightly

Jenelle EvansJenelle Evans is an interesting character, to say the least. From her whirlwind wedding and those assault charges she filed to her stint in rehab and rekindled romance, the attention-loving Teen Mom star and Twitter fiend has been all over the place the past few months. Which is why it's CRAZY to me that she and I actually have something in common. That something? A seriously annoying health issue.

A sleeping problem, to be exact. Jenelle recently tweeted a picture of a bottle of melatonin with the caption: "Courtland's suggestion for restless sleep :)." Well let me level with ya here, sister. Believe me, after dealing with a severe sleeping problem for about a month, I know it's frustrating when you can't sleep through the night. The bad news? Melatonin may not do the trick. It didn't for me, anyway.

First things first, let's talk about what melatonin is. A natural hormone made by your body's pineal gland, melatonin is released into the blood at night and makes you feel less alert. Levels stay elevated for about 12 hours from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. People take it to elevate natural levels one to 20 times the normal amount to help onset sleep. It's the only hormone available here in the U.S. without a prescription, and it's sold as a dietary supplement.

I tried taking melatonin for a few weeks when I couldn't sleep, and found it ineffective. A friend of mine said it took a few weeks for it to feel like it worked for her, and hey, that's great. I opted for a non-addictive sleep aid, instead, and thankfully it's worked wonders.

This is what I know: When my sleep problem was at its worst -- I felt irritable all the time. I felt drowsy and just unenthusiastic about all of my day-to-day tasks. I hope that whatever Jenelle is going through, she finds something to help her. We've seen that she has an explosive personality as it is. God only knows what she'll do on little sleep.
