This question from an anonymous and thoughtful CafeMom is a good one. Who creates the standards known as "normal" anyway?
Sigh. Body image is complicated.
If you want to check your Body Mass Index (BMI), the current gold standard of measuring your health according to your height and weight, this is an informative calculator from The New York Times. What do you think about BMI? Do you use it as your guage?

Wow, I can't believe that only 13% think there body is great most of the time.=(
i've gained 35 pounds since i quit smoking and used a fertility drug....i don't fit in my clothes anymore so i said soso...just because i was at an unhealthy weight to begin with...but now im about 10 lbs over what i should weigh...
I am thankful that my body is basically healthy. I do not take prescription drugs and we try to eat healthy, so overall most of my body is in pretty good shape. I have a shoulder that keeps dislocating and psoriasis, both of which I believe will fully heal one day. If I had clear skin, I wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen in a bathing suit in public, so for right now I'm still good.
It's 5% what you were born with and 95% how you perceive yourself. Looks change, hair goes gray or falls out, weight goes up and down, skin gets thin and spotted, eyesight fades - love what's inside, not what's in the mirror.
Other than just calculating your BMI. I think its also good to know your body fat percentage. Theres a body fat calculator at http://www.davedraper.com/bodyfat-calculation.html.
I just decided to join a women heath club that a friend of mine has joined I like the idea that it's just women I Cafemom. I need to lose some weight around my waist. I don't like my tummy most. I have to be careful because I have trouble with my shoulders.............................they like to dislocate.
I have gained like 40 lbs in the last year and a half to 2 years. Doctors don't seem to think it's medical. They tell me it's my age....I'm 41, almost 42 but I just can't imagine gaining that much so quick.....especially since the first year I gained almost 30 of those 40 lbs...it's crazy...I HATE it.
I'm 5'6 and 112lbs. and I'm 41 yrs old with four kids. I'm scrawny, too thin. I was 122lbs when I met DH and he wants me to gain that weight back. I wish I could--but I simply don't get hungry and I have major digestive issues that prevent me from gaining weight.
I'm not anorexic--I don't intentionally starve myself. I just don't feel hunger pangs like everyone else does. so I voted "so-so" on the poll because I wish I could have some of my weight and curves back!
