There's been some serious backlash to movie critic Rex Reed's fat-shaming of Melissa McCarthy in his review of Identity Thief. Unsurprising, being that the guy referred to the brilliant comic acctress as "cacophonous, tractor-sized," "a screeching, humongous creep, "a female hippo," and "a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success." (Uh. Yeah.)
But one of the biggest names out there fighting back may surprise some people. Biggest Loser's toughest trainer Jillian Michaels has taken a stand against Reed, telling him to "shut up" and describing what he said as "evil ... prejudiced [and] wrong in every possible way." YES!
Check it out ...
Goes to show that although she is one of the most vocal health advocates in pop culture and she believes in getting in shape no matter what and never making excuses, Jillian would also NEVER resort to or endorse the kind of cruelty Reed employed in his review to make her point.

Sure, Jillian yells at her contestants sometimes. But it's always delivered with tough love. She asks if they want to kick their Type 2 diabetes, live long enough to see their kids get married some day, etc. But she's never straight-up MEAN. And that's exactly what Reed was. And the guy's just a freakin' movie critic. Where does he get off commenting on anyone's size -- let alone a hilarious, brilliant actress who isn't asking what ANYONE thinks about her weight or her health?
Well, it's one thing for Jenny McCarthy to defend her cousin and slam Reed. But when a celebrated fitness guru Jillian Michaels is coming to Melissa's defense, that's really awesome. Hopefully Reed's listening -- and learns his lesson that his vile vitirol simply won't be tolerated.
What do you think about Jillian Michaels' defense of Melissa McCarthy? Surprised?
