Jessica Alba May Hate Working Out, But She Still Has a Secret to Staying in Shape

Wonder Woman 2

jessica alba women's health magazineEveryone wants to know how Jessica Alba looks so freakin' amazing after having her two daughters. And I gotta admit, I'm not all that impressed. Let's be real. The woman doesn't have some splashy secret, people. What she has is awesome DNA! But all right, as it turns out, to assume that's all there is to her hot body is probably selling her short.

The actress and entrepreneur, whose book, The Honest Life, comes out March 12, admitted in this month's issue of Women's Health that while she really "hates working out" (of course she does!), she does it (thank goodness she admits it). But what's more, she shared the tricks up her sleeve for boosting motivation and making her workouts more enjoyable ...

But first off, sorta unsurprisingly, she says she likes to do something "fun," because any workout that doesn't really feel like "working out" is obviously better. Jess explains:

I like doing dance classes. That's fun. Like hip hop class, mixed with like core Pilates-type exercises. ... Anything where I have to do something but I can get my mind off of doing it, that's so much better for me than anything that's repetitive. Or the music has to be loud and I have to be moving.

But when the young mom's at home, it gets a bit trickier. How does she get herself to jump on her in-house treadmill, which can be as repetitive as it gets? She confesses:

When I’m at home and I’m working out and I don’t have a partner with me, I like to put bad television on. Usually a pretty embarrassing reality TV show and I do sprint intervals. So I’ll sprint for a minute and walk for 30 seconds and do that on and off for 20-30 minutes usually.

Awesome!! Yes, I mean about the sprint intervals but also about the bad reality shows! Ha, I do it, too! I swear, it works! A little Kourtney & Kim Take Miami goes a long way to helping you sweat it out through even the most grueling treadmill/elliptical/bike workout ... I'm not sure what about it makes it so effective exactly, but my guess is that it has something to do with the fact that you're pairing a guilty pleasure (like, I dunno, The Bachelor ...) with, well, working out. Plus, if you wanna be completely distracted, so you can't think about how hard you're working, bad TV is a fab way to go!

Gotta say, I was already impressed with Jessica's "Honest" campaign, but now that she's being honest about her fitness routine, I'm even more of a fan.

What do you think about Jessica's tricks? How do you keep yourself engaged with your workouts?

At the gym I don't know how people stay on the elliptical for a hour +. I just can't push myself as hard as I want and loose focus. I tend to do 20 min cycles on running elliptical biking stair climber... so I don't get bored and I push myself as hard as I can for each thing. It helps keep me motivated and trying my hardest. I have a love/hate relationship with working out. I love moments when I feel so strong so amazed at my body .. but there are a lot of moments before that where im ready to give up. I guess that's part of why I get amazed that I could do more than I thought!

This is going to sound stupid as hell but I turn on spongbob while I work out. His level of work ethic really motivates me. I figure if a sponge can work at the same dead end job for 14 years and still look forward to it I can make it thru an hour long work out lol
