Khloe Kardashian's Joke That Her Vagina 'Smells Like Roses' Sends a Dangerous Message (VIDEO)
Khloe Kardashian is one multitasking reality star. In addition to lending her name to beauty products, PETA, clothing, accessories, etc., Khloe's also partnering with Kotex’s Generation Know campaign to educate girls about their bodies. She even went on HuffPo Live recently to talk about some rather personal, lady matters, like periods and personal odor. Yep, fun! And really, it seemed like she was having fun ... Until Amber Madison, the Generation Know Project Leader, posed a Q that seemed to catch Khloe off-guard.
She said most women want to know more about what's "bad" and "normal" when it comes to, well, how our vaginas smell. Khloe's response: "Is your vagina supposed to smell? Because mine smells like roses." Uh, pardon moi?!
Okay, hopefully, she was just being sarcastic, but that response was still rather irresponsible on her part. Because I'm afraid there are viewers out there -- girls and women alike -- who won't get it, and like it or not, we've got a major problem with this topic.
My friend and OB/GYN-turned integrative medicine physician Lissa Rankin, M.D. used to say she felt like she'd never cease to hear one particular Q: "How should I smell ... down there?"
The answer is that there's no one perfect, best, healthy way. Everyone's different, and the scent can change based on a whole variety of factors -- time of month, what you've eaten, whether you just worked out or took a shower (duh, right?). And if you have an infection, you'll know there's something "off."
Nonetheless, we're ALL targeted by fear-mongering messages hell-bent on getting us to freak out about how our vaginas smell and, in turn, buy products that promise to make our lady parts "fresh." As Eve Ensler, author of the Vagina Monologues, once said:
Don’t believe him when he tells you it smells like rose petals when it’s supposed to smell like pussy. That’s what they’re doing -- trying to clean it up, make it smell like bathroom spray or a garden.
It's absurd. And not only are those products -- whether they're douches or wipes or sprays -- based on a pack of lies, but they're not healthy for anyone! They can even throw off pH and lead to infection. Which is never a good look, amirite?!
Hence why it is so darn frustrating and annoying that Khloe thought it wise to even JOKE about her vajayjay smelling like roses. She would have done Generation Know and the rest of us a bigger favor by telling it like it is!
Here's the clip of Khloe's eye roll-worthy reaction ...
What do you think of Khloe's remark? How do you feel about products that would have women believe "roses" is an acceptable scent for our genitalia?
