Good news for vegetarians: A new study found that people who don't eat meat are 32 percent less likely to die or be hospitalized because of heart disease. Bad news for carnivores: Guess that means meat-eaters are 32 percent more likely to die or be hospitalized because of heart disease? Well, hang on a minute. Let's take a closer look at WHY vegetarians are supposed to be heart-healthier than non-vegetarians.
Apparently weight doesn't have anything to do with the advantage, or at least not much -- even taking body mass index into account, researchers found that vegetarians still had a 28 percent lower risk of getting heart disease than carnivores ... because they had lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Aha! Now, everybody knows you don't have to give up meat to lower your blood pressure and/or cholesterol -- you just have to give up SOME meat. Or at least cut way back on stuff like pepperoni and sausage and anything fried/deep fried/batter-dipped & fried. And, of course, pretty much anything that falls into the fast food category.
Naturally that means cutting back on all the other bad-for-you things that often accessorize bad-for-you meat, like anything fried/deep fried/batter-dipped & fried, extra cheese, and pretty much anything that falls into the fast food category.
(I know, what's the fun of being a carnivore if you have to give up all of that?)
