When Miley Cyrus first jumped on the gluten-free bandwagon, I have to admit, I was rolling my eyes. As someone related to and friendly with people who grapple with legit celiac disease, it's beyond irritating to watch people do it as a "trendy" diet. Where did she get off swearing off gluten if she didn't have to? I wasn't alone ... and a lot of skeptics were questioning whether or not Miley was just using a gluten-free diet as a lame-o excuse for some kind of eating disorder. But I'm not so sure ...
Just yesterday, she shared some details of what happens when she diverts from her gluten-free lifestyle, tweeting, "I now remember why I never eat pizza. It makes me feel like sh*t. #glutenized." Apparently, some people read that tweet and thought she was lamenting "feeling fat" ... !? Cue the backlash!
Of course people would have reason to be livid or concerned if she was actually calling herself fat or seemed to think eating pizza made her fat, but when she said she felt like "sh*t" from pizza, I am positive she wasn't talking about her weight. And she even clarified for followers who misunderstood, tweeting:
Let me clarify "sh*t" wasn't meaning "fat" I mean sick. Because gluten is poisoning me. Your stomach has a brain too & it hates SH*T food.
Many people who have cut gluten -- and just dairy or gluten and dairy -- out of their diet for a significant amount of time could empathize with Miley. Because even when you're not sensitive to either food, I've heard people do feel better when they go without 'em. Which isn't really that surprising, being that both can be inflammatory and cause tummy troubles. And it sounds like Miley has experienced issues like that -- and actually felt sick -- when she's occasionally chowed down on conventional pizza.
In other words, as she noted in a follow-up tweet, "It's not about weight it's about health." I really believe Miley's diet tweets had nothing to do with an eating disorder. And everything to do with a lifestyle that works better for her overall wellness. Good for her. Hopefully her clarifying tweet sets the record straight.
What do you think about Miley's comments on eating pizza? How do you feel about gluten?

Oh jeez..People just have to find SOMETHING to bitch about.I'm not a fan of Miley's but it's pretty obvious to me that she meant what she said about feeling like shit;it wasn't some code for "pizza makes me fat".As for gluten; I haven't read that much on it so I can't give an opinion but if it makes someone feel better to be gluten-free,whether they are allergic or not, then I have no problem with it.
I am gluten free due to health reasons, my husband is gluten free just to be my partner... however he notices a difference in his digestion when he chooses to eat wheat products. This isn't something odd, bread isn't all that good for you- and pizza isn't all that good for you. If your system isn't used to eating it- it'll react!
People just like to be mean to others.
"Where did she get off swearing off gluten if she didn't have to?"
Seriously? So everyone should have to eat gluten unless they can't due to an allergy? Anyone can choose to not eat anything they wish to, it doesn't make it trendy. I rarely eat gluten because it makes me feel fat... yes FAT. It makes my stomach feel too full so I choose not to eat it most days.
I do not have an eating disorder/
There's certainly an element of "fad" to the gluten free craze. Some people are clearly alergic and some no doubt do have a mild genuine reaction but for some it's all in their head.
Whenever there's a new discovery that's eventually debunked or put in it's proper perspective, there's always some who hang on after everyone else has moved on.
