Kellie Pickler's Shaved Hair Has Grown Back, but Her Brave Fight for Breast Cancer Won't Be Forgotten

kellie pickler shaved headFour months back, Kellie Pickler decided to shave her head. Yup, the adorable former American Idol contestant razored off her blonde locks, leading us to have visions of cray cray Britney Spears dancing through our heads. Thankfully, Kellie had buzzed her hair for a very sane, very amazing reason ... Her friend Summer Holt Miller is a 35-year-old mother of two who was diagnosed in June with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Upon seeing her friend face this battle, Kellie decided she had to do something to send an important message. At the time, she told People, "Cancer does not discriminate. If [shaving my hair] compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it." Wow, right?

Fast-forward to now, and yep, her goldy locks are growing back! And she's actually starting to remind me of Meg Ryan when she had her pixie cut ...

Kellie tweeted a pic of herself sporting the new 'do, holding her newborn niece last night. She noted: "Finally!!! It's official...I'm auntie Kellie!!!!!! :)" Cuuuute!

And although her hair is back, I'm sure her battle on behalf of Summer lives on. After all, when she first shaved her head, the reaction was astounding and so supportive. I can only imagine that had a powerful effect on raising awareness. Not only for women to go get their mammos, but for women like Kellie, who are friends of others fighting the disease, to stand up and support their loved ones in a visible way.

What Kellie did was not just admirable; it was especially courageous and inspiring. Because of course, breast cancer sufferers can find others in the same boat to lean on, but how amazing is it when their loved ones offer above-and-beyond support like this? Go Kellie! No matter what hairstyle she rocks, I'm sure her huge heart will have a lasting effect.

Are you inspired by what Kellie did?
