Brave Brooke Burke Reveals Cancer Scar to Fans (VIDEO)

Inspiring 27

Brooke BurkeDancing With the Stars fans everywhere gave a huge sigh of relief this past December when host Brooke Burke announced that she is cancer-free. After a super public battle with thyroid cancer, the 41-year-old TV personality stopped by Good Morning America yesterday to talk about her experience and proudly show off something she's never shown off before: her scar.

She told GMA's Lara Spencer that "it's fresh, it's a month old, and I think scars tell a story. I think I'm so fortunate."

Fortunate she is. Burke is the perfect testament that being a survivor is something to be proud of, and no little scar can affect her real beauty. In my eyes, you're looking better than ever, Brooke.

Brooke's scar is a testament to the tough times that she's been through. Whether they're physical or emotional, all of us have scars of our own. Brooke parading hers on national television puts her in a very vulnerable position, but watching her handle herself with poise was admirable and a great testament to her inner beauty.

Something a good friend of mine always says when times get tough to me is that scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue. While I'm no serious doctor of any sort and don't know if that's actually true, I like the metaphor and think it applies great here. Brooke is stronger now after going through that health scare. Sure, showing up without makeup on her very visible neck scar wasn't easy and may have taken her a while. But she did it, and that takes some serious guts.

Watch part of Brooke's interview from yesterday, here:

Do you think Brooke Burke is brave to show off her scar? Have you or someone close to you been affected by thyroid cancer?

I didn't even notice until she gestured at her neck. I'm sure it was very hard for her, but lets not act as if she's deformed. She can still model and host DWTS (unfortunately for the viewers)- this was a minor speed bump in her life.

So a celebrity gets a totally curable form of cancer and we're supposed to feel sorry for her because she has a scar. My dear Brooke I have a 17 inc scar on my leg from a Sarcoma the size of a football, endured three years of grueling treatment. Wah, Wah, Wah.......I am sorry anyone has to go through this, meaning any cancer whatsoever, but please, with it's cure rate being at 96%, I find it hard to muster the sympathy up, when my cancer has less than a 5% survival rate. More funds are needed to reseach all cancers, but particularlyther orphan cancers.....Rant over.

I'm sorry I don't find her brave to show her scar at all. I am tired of stars parading around telling there story when half of them haven't even gone through something tough. So she has a little scar on her throat, I have two on my breasts and went through chemo. I am sure there are a lot of other woman out there that feel the same way. Lucky for her she didn't need any advance treatment!

Well, who knew that I've been so BRAVE all my life for not covering a scar I have that's twice that size?! Come on, now. This article is beyond ridiculous.

It says video is private. I don't know anyone with that type of cancer.

Anyone who has cancer is brave, they go through so much but yet still fight to survive and beat it.

Showing a scar isn't what I would call brave. It is encouraging that she came through it.

It's great for her to do that. I do not know anyone who has dealt with that type of cancer

Maybe she is just trying to encourage people with thyroid cancer to be brave.  I have a tumor on my thyroid that was benign but I have a rather large scar on my neck from having it removed.

I have a friend that her doctors think she has it. They are testing her now.
