'DWTS' Host Brooke Burke’s Thyroid Surgery Isn’t Getting the Best of Her

Now that the All-Star season is officially over, Dancing With the Stars co-host Brooke Burke Charvet is preparing for thyroid surgery this week to treat the cancer she was diagnosed with last month.

The news that she has cancer really came out of nowhere, and she was just as shocked with the diagnosis as the rest of us -- given that it was discovered during a routine check-up. (Can you even imagine?)

And even though Brooke has assured her fans that the cancer was caught early and she is going to be ok, the surgery is still very scary and will be life changing -- because it will leave her with a scar across her neck.

But her attitude about having a permanent reminder of having thyroid cancer is nothing short of inspiring.

She recently tweeted:

I'm amazed at how many women have stopped me In the past month to share their thyroid scars & stories. They're beauty marks & so reassuring.

Wow. Don't you love how she refers to them as "beauty marks"? What a great way to take a negative situation and turn it into something positive. Considering she spends the better part of her life in front of a camera, it takes a good bit of inner strength to see the silver lining in having that scar.

And her uplifting sentiments don't end there, because she also posted the following statement on her Facebook page:

I’m getting ready this week for my surgery and am planning on a speedy recovery. I’ll be posting some new blogs on ModernMom.com about how I’ve been dealing with it all and how my family has been handling it too. What a crazy time, but I am surrounded with love and support and that really makes a world of difference. Thank you for following me and for all your thoughts and prayers. I feel it, truly, and your energy outweighs my stress! From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Leave it to Brooke to selflessly reach out to her fans to reassure them during such a difficult and frightening time. (Is she a class act, or what?)

And I hope she knows this goes without saying -- we are ALL praying for her and keeping her in our thoughts as she embarks on this journey. She is one very brave soul, and a beautiful woman who inspires us all and reminds us of what is truly important in life.

What well wishes would you offer to Brooke?

I love your positive outlook, Brooke!  My uncle who just turned 91 years old, just had surgery for thyroid cancer and he is doing great!  You are in my thoughts and prayers.
