For the average teenage girl, weight is a sticky subject. Too fat, too thin, thighs too big -- we've all felt insecure about our bodies at one point or another. Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry recently spoke with Wetpaint about her body issues growing up, confessing that she too was called "chunky girl." It affected her so much that sometimes she wouldn't eat and try to make herself throw up.
It's always eye opening to look at someone like Kailyn, a confident woman coming into her own, and learn that she too has had some struggles. A nice little reminder to us all that no, you're never alone and yes, it will get better.
Women all have their individual interpretations of what the perfect body really is. Kailyn may have dealt with the fact that she wasn't stick thin -- but then there are many women who may be thin and want what she had. It's the vicious cycle that we put ourselves through, trying to be our own version of "perfection."
Sure, I can tell you that nobody is perfect -- but at the end of the day we're our own worst critics. What's important, though, is that we're all realistic about our health and fitness goals. Frustrated like Kailyn once was? Make a list of simple changes and swaps you can make to slowly get to a better place. Trading the morning bagel for a yogurt and that lunchtime burrito for a grilled chicken salad is much easier and safer than taking things to such extreme levels.
Today, Kailyn is in a completely different place. She's a fantastic mother to her baby boy and a role model for girls who have felt like her in the past. She tells Wetpaint:
I know I'm not fitting in with the rest of the girls who are stick-thin or fit into a size 0 or 2 ... I'm willing to accept that and not change who I am for everybody else. I want to be who I am for me.
What do you think of Kailyn's weight struggle? Have you ever felt the same way?
