My cough is asthma. My daughter has the same thing, coughing until you gag could be an asthma attack

Milk should actually be avoided if you have a cough, as it is a mucous producing food. So is chocolate, cheese, etc.

Hot water with honey and lemon is good for coating the throat while also helping to cut through mucous. And I swear by licorice root (not to be confused with licorice candy, lol). Be careful with it though, too much can be a bad thing. Best to get it from a reputable herbalist or health food store, with proper instruction. You can also find it 'pre-packaged' in herbal teas made for coughs (throat coat, etc).

Also, Dr Pepper, warmed and with a few squeezes of lemon. Seems odd, and even a little gross, lol. But it really does help! :)

Sometimes it helps to deliberately cough with a "Strong - diaphramatic cough". Use the diaphram muscles, in the tummy to deliberately actively cough up as much as you can. A few really strong deliberate coughs can suppress uncontrolled coughing for a period of time afterwards.

Dark chocolate is suppose to be a good cough suppressant and it works. My kids get a pretty bad cough every year so someone told me to try the chocolate. My kids would cough all night and get no sleep and I hate giving cough medicine so I gave my kids 2 pieces of dark chocolate before bed and it kept them cough free all night so they could rest.

My daughter used to get croup ALL THE TIME when she was a baby. We would end up in the ER at least once a month so they could give her some strong breathing treatments. The only way to get her to come out of these coughing fits was to bring her out into the cold night air, within a minute or two she would finally be able to stop coughing and breath. A steamy bathroom had the opposite effect for her. Thankfully shortly after she turned two she grew out of whatever it was that was causing her to get so sick all the time, and we never had to go to the ER for her breathing again. And for adults- Brandy with some lemon juice and honey warmed up in the microwave for about 45 seconds works amazingly for cough and congestion.....and it helps knock you out so you can get some sleep lol!

We do vicks on the feet, covered with cotton socks.  My son sleeps through the night, everytime.

Honey works, honey and lemon good,Have use the vicks on the chest, not on the feet thro! Having some one telling you they are going to beat your ass works too good to cure the sniffles too! doesn't cost any thing either,so call up you local bully and have him or her stop by and in time you will be cough and sniffle FREE!!!

We use essential oils. RC and Thieves blend are good. Peppermint and Lavender are as well. I love my oils!

I was hoping this was to help relieve a baby of their cough given there was a pic of a coughing baby next to the headline. My son has had a nasty cough ever since he got a cold a month ago, everything else cleared up except the cough. We have tried vics, a humidifier, breathing treatments, nothing works. Given he is only 7 mos old, honey is out of the question.

How exactly would vics on the feet help with a cough.   On the chest makes sense....but on the feet???
