Rosie O'Donnell 'Lucky' to Have Survived Heart Attack Scare (VIDEO)

rosie o'donnellRosie O'Donnell is "very, very lucky" to be alive after suffering a heart attack last week. The news was kept under wraps until she and her rep went public with it yesterday.

Rosie reports on her blog that it was last Tuesday when she began experiencing symptoms she didn't initially link to a heart attack. But after Googling "women's heart attack symptoms," she realized the ache in her chest, sore arms, persistent pain, nausea, clammy skin, and vomiting she was experiencing were all markers. She decided to take a Bayer aspirin -- thanks to the commercials we've all seen thousands of times -- and the next day, saw her cardiologist and got an EKG.

As it turned out, Rosie actually had a heart attack they call a "Widow maker." Wow ...

After the docs found that her coronary artery was 99 percent blocked, she had a stent inserted, and now she's home and resting comfortably. So scary!

But you gotta love how Rosie is being so forthcoming about it all via her usual verse on her blog. As she notes, 200,000 women die of heart attacks every year in the U.S. ... and disturbingly, 50 percent of them never call 911. So, there's obviously good reason to learn from what happened to her and heed her advice:

know the symptoms ladies/listen to the voice inside/the one we all so easily ignore/CALL 911/save urself.

She's so right. How many times do we blow off what our intuition is telling us about our health? Because we're too busy or it couldn't possibly be what we think it is or we're worried we're acting like hypochondriacs. But clearly, there's major merit to knowing the symptoms and trusting "the voice inside." If Rosie hadn't, she might not have made it through this health scare with flying colors.

Do you feel well-aware of heart attack symptoms?
