Hey, everybody! Are you ready for today's edition of STOP EATING THAT FOOD BEFORE IT KILLS YOU!? That's good, because according to the latest study, eating too much of this particular food can put as much plaque in your arteries as a "lifetime of heavy smoking." So get your grocery list and get ready to cross off ... eggs.
For cripe's sake, really?! Are we back to demonizing everybody's favorite breakfast food for its high cholesterol content? I mean, yes, eggs are high in cholesterol. We've known that for quite some time (since egg white omelettes became a thing, approximately). But then we found out that eggs can actually raise "good" (HDL) cholesterol. Hooray! Omelettes with egg yolks! Or ... not. Now suddenly eggs are as much of a health hazard as cigarettes? What gives?!

Okay, fine, maybe we eat way too many eggs on the whole in this country:
Last year, the average American consumed 247 eggs -- over 40 percent more than the world per-capita average. Because egg yolks are high in cholesterol, eating whole eggs increases cholesterol, a known risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart attacks.
Okay, fine, maybe we should not eat quite so many eggs. But do we really need to equate the risk factor of a fondness for fritattas with a nicotine addiction? This panic mentality has got to stop.
Because ironically, last time I checked? Stress is pretty bad for your heart, too.
Do you think eggs are really as bad for you as cigarettes?

we have 20 month old twin girls my husband and i and we eat organic cage free brown eggs every morning for breakfast, my girls each get one my hub and i each get two. we prepare them a multitude of ways, always as healthy as i can find the recipe for, my daughters are the healthiest babies i have ever seen. my hub is super healthy, i am still struggling with the effects of preclampsia so my health is compromised but no where on my chart is my cholesterol high. eggs grown correctly arent as bad as they want you to believe. my goodness. its like the fda is run by 5 yr olds.... down with eggs!! smarties anyone?? geeez
I probably eat more than 247 eggs per year. I probably eat twice that, and I have no problems with my BP or cholesterol.
Heh, we must be one of the families that makes that number curve up... We have breakfast for dinner two or three times a month, breakfast for lunch at least once a week, and then of course breakfast... And of course there's the baked goods and other recipes that have eggs in them. Eggs are a favorite around here. It's an easy way for us to get protein, my kids can cook them themselves, and (at least for us), they're convenient as all get out. We don't have eggs every day, but pretty close.
haha false. It's good cholesterol and your brain needs cholesterol.
everything kills you nowadays..
there's a recent study that egg yolk might not be as bad as they thought.
We eat eggs all the time and I have ridiculously good cholesterol levels. The thing is... I don't eat a lot of processed food. Avocados are also high in all kinds of fatty goodness... but that's not the culprit of cholesterol. Your body was made to process natural fats. Its all this chemical crap we are introducing into our bodies that is the real problem. Check out this article. I found it interesting.

I buy an 18pk carton of eggs around once a month for my family of four and most of those eggs are used for cooking and baking, basically being put into other recipes. When we have them for breakfast they are the entree. My 3yr old & 1yr old share 1 egg, I'll have 2 and my husband has cut down to 2 eggs. We only make breakfast eggs literally once a week and I don't even fry them in oil. I don't see how this can be a hazard to my family.
