Hey, everybody! Are you ready for today's edition of STOP EATING THAT FOOD BEFORE IT KILLS YOU!? That's good, because according to the latest study, eating too much of this particular food can put as much plaque in your arteries as a "lifetime of heavy smoking." So get your grocery list and get ready to cross off ... eggs.
For cripe's sake, really?! Are we back to demonizing everybody's favorite breakfast food for its high cholesterol content? I mean, yes, eggs are high in cholesterol. We've known that for quite some time (since egg white omelettes became a thing, approximately). But then we found out that eggs can actually raise "good" (HDL) cholesterol. Hooray! Omelettes with egg yolks! Or ... not. Now suddenly eggs are as much of a health hazard as cigarettes? What gives?!

Okay, fine, maybe we eat way too many eggs on the whole in this country:
Last year, the average American consumed 247 eggs -- over 40 percent more than the world per-capita average. Because egg yolks are high in cholesterol, eating whole eggs increases cholesterol, a known risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart attacks.
Okay, fine, maybe we should not eat quite so many eggs. But do we really need to equate the risk factor of a fondness for fritattas with a nicotine addiction? This panic mentality has got to stop.
Because ironically, last time I checked? Stress is pretty bad for your heart, too.
Do you think eggs are really as bad for you as cigarettes?

Eggs are good source of inexpensive protien. The leutin in eggs are good for your skin, hair and nails. The problem is not eggs, it's the things people eat with them--grease laden hashbrowns (yum!) all sorts of other things. We eat them hardboiled and sliced on green salads in the summer, put raw veggies in the salad, a little leftover meat--whatever, and call it dinner.
I am studying nutrition and I can confidently say this is complete and utter BULLSHIT (to use the medical term, ha.) Excluding the fact that cigarettes, a man-made, highly processed, highly synthetic substance are one of the most toxi substances on earth, where as a nature-made (free range, organic) egg is completey free of toxins (unless of course it's from a battery cage hen fed antiobiotics...), you also have to question the SOURCE of this information. The article does not adquetly explain the methodology of the study! The sample size is far too low, they don't seem to control for other variables, they don't specify the timeline. It's absurd for anyone to make ANY nutritional decisions based on this shoddy excuse for a study. Beyond that, numerous other studies counter indicate this - there is NO proven causation between cholesteral in food and cholesteral in artieres, and in fact, cholesteral is an anti-oxidant that regulates heart function and without it we would die. Yes, that is right - cholesteral is IMPORTANT. Arterial plaque build is caused by a variety of factors, but th elipid hypothesis which states arterial plaque causes heart disease has not even been definitely proven, yet we seem to base all other decisions off of an (unproved) theory that was the result of political and economic forces stemming from the changing tides of industry in the 1950's and beyond. Don't listen to this nonsense, please.
This study just might be funded by the meat industry . . .
no, I think it is the goverment trying to scare everyone into thinking what they want everyone to think. It is just like chocolate is good for you and then it is not, they don't know jack squat, they just guess in my eyes. Everything is good then everything is bad. They even said that ciggarette smoking was good not too long ago and then went back to bad, so I will eat what I want. I eat eggs everyday for breakfast and sometimes for lunch and dinner, so if they want me to stop eating it, they better put a ban on them because I am not going to stop eating nurtitious foods just because "it is bad for you" I mean, come on do you get second hand fry? NOPE
This is so ridiculous. Sensation garbage you think it comes from FOX news or something. The truth is cholesterol helps protect your arteries.
Ugh. I have gestational diabetes and am basically subsisting on eggs right now, at the advice of my doctors!!! I can't *stand* it when studies say something is "as bad as smoking cigarettes". Because no, it's not. It's just not. No.
Everyone knows too many egs are bad for you but its still a fantastic superfood. It shouldn't be a case of stopping any fods it should be moderation!!!
