Get in Shape Fast With This Easy At-Home Workout

When you're a new mom, there's probably never a time you need to exercise more, not just to get back in shape, but because of its stress-relieving and sleep-improving benefits. Unfortunately, when you're adjusting to life with a baby, working out can seem totally impossible.

Good news! You can exercise easily and effectively at home, without investing in a bunch of expensive equipment. Sarah James shows us how in the latest episode of The Sarah James Show. Read on for tips and watch the video for demonstrations.


Do three sets of each exercise, and make sure you're moving slowly and really engaging your muscles.

Sumo squats: Stand with your feet about hip distance apart, make sure your knees are over your ankles, and slowly reach your butt back like you were sitting in a chair. You can pulse your butt down, or hold the pose as long as you can for added difficulty. Repeat 12-15 times.

Triceps toning: Grab weights, lean forward, and bend your knees slightly (this engages the lower body as well). Extend your arms back behind you and return to start. Do 12-15 reps.

Push-ups: You can do "girl" push-ups or full ones if you're stronger. This exercise tones SO much of your body; if you have no time for anything else, do these for 12-15 reps, then stretch out your lower back by sitting back on your heels and reaching forward with your arms.

Back strengthening: Start on your hands and knees and extend your arm and your opposite leg, then repeat with the other arm and leg. Do 10 reps of this per set.

The plank: Stretch your legs out behind you like you were doing a full push-up, and tuck your toes under. Keeping your butt in line with your body, rest on your elbows and engage your abs. Hold this for up to a minute, if you can go that long.

The great thing is, none of these take very long, and if you don't have time for a full workout all at once, you can work in a set here and a set there. Do them three days a week, work in cardio on the other days, and soon you'll be feeling strong and healthy.
