Anne Hathaway's 'Catwoman' Suit Helped Her Stick to Crazy Crash Diet

Anne HathawayEveryone's been all over Anne Hathaway's case for months now because of her crazy dieting antics. Yeah yeah, the rumored two apples a day method isn't exactly healthy. (Read: HOW can ANYONE do that?!) However, one of her biggest diet inspirations actually really intrigues me. Ready for it? The Catwoman suit for her role in The Dark Knight Rises. She told Allure all about her dreaded relationship with the body-hugging item:

"The suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit ... it dominated my year," Anne vented. "I went into the gym for ten months and didn’t come out.”

Eeeeek. Ten months at the gym?! OK, so Anne's approach to fitting into that suit was a little extreme. However, you can't tell me you haven't felt the same way at one point or another, looking for inspiration anywhere you can? Heck, I know I have. Except instead of fitting into a Catwoman suit -- it was a pair of jeans ... four sizes smaller than I was.

I digress.


During my teen years I worked at a summer camp. I was also much, much bigger. Like, 60 pounds bigger. After watching one-too-many TV shows where women bought teeny bikinis to hang on the wall for dieting inspiration, I decided to do the same thing except with a pair of jeans. I was in one of my favorite stores one afternoon, spotted them, and knew that if I could fit into those jeans by the end of the summer, I would be happy.

In retrospect, the jeans were the perfect motivation. Every few days I would try them on and be this much closer to being able to button them. I would wake up in the morning, see the baby blues hanging on the back of my closet, and head out to run my daily mile. The best feeling ever? On the final day of summer camp, I wore them to dinner. I remember crying and feeling uber accomplished.

Since dropping some more weight over the years, the jeans today are way too big. I'll never throw them away, though. The pants symbolize everything I went through and how far I've come.

What I'm trying to say is Anne, I get it. Sure the whole 10 months at the gym method isn't healthy, but using an item of clothing as inspiration works. Maybe next time, try out a whole slew of workouts that don't just involve being at the gym. Zumba? Hiking? Trail running? Trust me, I'm sure it would be a whole lot more fun.
