Say What!?

Getting Liposuction Could Make You Fatter Than You Were Before

fat womanLiposuction can actually make you fatter. That's right FATTER!

If you Hoover out all that unwanted pudge, you body actually compensates for the loss by increasing the amount of fat elsewhere in your body.

In a new study from Brazil, women who had lipo on their abdomens had an increase in visceral fat, which is fat around the abdominal organs, six months after surgery. So basically you could be trading in that muffin top for back fat! Talk about a raw deal.

But this visceral fat is bad for many reasons, vanity the least of them. Researchers say it can be more harmful than regular fat as studies have linked it to high blood pressure, high cholesterol loves, and insulin resistance, all of which can increase the risk of heart disease.

But there is light at the end of the tubby tunnel. If you work out regularly after surgery, you can keep this new fat from forming. That doesn't mean the occasional power walk with a pal. You have to begin an actual fitness regimen. You know, like the one you probably should have done instead of getting surgery in the first place. Which kind of defeats the whole purpose of even having a quick fix procedure, right?

The lesson here: While strict diet and exercise can suck, it really is the best solution for losing weight.

Have you found a diet and exercise plan that works?

We see this with surgical procedures too. People regain the fat because they continue to eat the same foods that got them fat in the first place. They failed to learn.

I got a tummy-tuck with lipo on my "love handles".
I have lost weight, and continue to exercise and eat right.
I have also never lost a single centimeter on my love handles. Lipo helped them NONE and neither has working out.
They seem to have been stuck at the point where they just BARELY poke over my jeans.... for 9 years now.
And I only got the surgery 2 years ago.
    Go figure.

How is this news?? This isn't anything new.. if you had lipo in the hopes that it will make you skinny and you never have to work out again... Then you were completely misinformed. Any GOOD plastic surgeon would inform you of this before the procedure. Removing fat cells from one part of your body just means the fat you eat will be stored somewhere else on your body.. so a good workout plan and diet are very important to keep your body lookin good!

It's so true! I knew someone who had it done on their waist, and over the years her hips and thighs grew to be huge, like "declared handicapped b/c of how big they were" huge, and her waist was always teenie tiny. Also, I feel like I should be telling this around a campfire with a flashlight under my face.
