Sheryl Crow dropped a shocking bomb in an interview that ran today in the Las Vegas Review-Journal: She has a brain tumor. The good news is that it's benign, and she says she's not worried.
Still, it has to be terrifying in some respects to have something like that growing in her body, especially after everything she's been through. Crow, if you recall, battled breast cancer in 2006, and she's one of those we laud as survivors. So to hear that she's had a brush with the beast again takes our breath away, but it's perhaps that earlier experience that made her take action this time.
She said she suspected something was wrong when she began forgetting things. At 50, it would have been easy for her to blame it on age. Fortunately, Crow didn't just brush it off, and instead went to the doctor. Last November she got the diagnosis, but until now hasn't discussed it.
She told the paper:
I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI. And I found out I have a brain tumor. And I was, like, 'See? I knew there was something wrong.'
Even though she says she doesn't have to worry about it because it's benign and there's reportedly no need for surgery at this point, she does say "it gives her fits."

I'm glad Crow is finally coming out with this news, because we all -- especially us busy moms who often put the needs of our kids and spouses first -- need to hear these stories and use them as reminders not to just brush off our own health issues and ignore nagging symptoms. While, Crow's tumor may be benign, it just as easily could have been something more serious, and early treatment is often vital. Now doctors will be able to monitor Crow and take action quickly if it becomes necessary over time.
Our bodies are amazing and often give us signals when something is wrong; we just have to slow down long enough to listen to them and to take action when we think we hear one. Kudos to Crow for doing so and for sharing the news too.
Do you find yourself blowing off health issues because you're too busy to get them investigated?

so glad it's benign!
so glad it is benign! Best wishes Cheryl
yes I do, I often times dont get checked out til its at the point I HAVE to be seen- including skipping yearly paps and such- its been 3 years WOW!
The last few times I was convinced something was wrong with me due to various symptoms (without using Google Dr), I was offered anti-depressants by my PCP. I think it's time to find a new doctor which is not terribly easy for me given that I have many drug allergies and often get pegged as drug seeking.
I hope they're right that it's not malignant. Years after having cancer, a tumor shows up elsewhere - not usually good news.
Good luck to her
