By now you've probably heard the reason that Tamra Barney of The Real Housewives of Orange County had her breast implants removed -- because she had a scare with cervical cancer. Yikes.
The reality star recently opened up to Dr. Oz, telling him about her "little health scare," as she referred to it. She said: "I really went through this like, 'What is going on with my body? What is going on?' I'm talking to my doctor about ... doing a hysterectomy," she says, "and I have lumps and I'm thinking, 'Oh my god. I needed to take over my body.'"
So, take over her body she did ... which is a lot more than we can say about a lot of other reality stars.
None of the Real Housewives -- not just the ones on RHOOC -- are strangers to going under the knife (or needle) for cosmetic reasons. They all look great and much younger than they should -- no thanks to good genes (nice try, though) -- but I think all these "modifications," if you will (even if they are for a "deviated septum"), completely remove people from their actual bodies. The bodies they were born with.

I have nothing against plastic surgery whatsoever. If you want to do it, go for it, but think about it: When you have bags of silicone or saline in your chest, you really don't know what your actual breasts feel like. It isn't easy for you to tell if "things are off." And it isn't easy for doctors either. Extra precautions need to be taken. Lumps are harder to find, and on the flip side, things that feel like lumps might be nothing at all.
Even though her health scare was with cervical cancer, I think Tamra's decision to remove her breast implants was the right one. It'll make her more aware of her body as the living, breathing thing that it is, as opposed to something that's just pretty to look at.
Do you think Tamra was smart to remove her breast implants?
