'Gluten-Free' Could Be an Excuse for Miley Cyrus' Real Problem (VIDEO)

miley cyrusListen up, people, Miley Cyrus does not have an eating disorder. Sweet niblets! According to a recent tweet from the 19-year-old starlet, she's not starving herself to be skinny:

"For everyone calling me anorexic I have a gluten and lactose allergy. It's not about weight it's about health. Gluten is crapppp anyway!"

She even tweeted a photo of herself with a bag of fast food, inhaling deeply:

"I can't eat it, so I'm just gonna smell the s--- out of it! My mouth is LITERALLY watering."

Okay, I have a little bit of experience with this topic. When I was around Miley's age (hmm, weird coincidence), I was also diagnosed with a "gluten and lactose allergy," which required me to follow the same strict dietary guidelines. And guess what I figured out, fast?

You get pretty damn skinny when you cut all foods containing wheat, barley, rye, and dairy out of your diet. (That's including, but not limited to: most breads, cakes, pies, candies, cereals, cookies, crackers, pastas, sauces [including soy sauce] seasoned snack foods like potato and tortilla chips, pizza, ice cream, yogurt, cheese, and butter.)

Basically, if it's not an apple or doesn't have a label on it that says "gluten-free," you can't eat it. Of course you're going to lose weight -- there are about five foods left that are safe to consume!

Here's the thing: Celiac disease (which causes gluten intolerance) and dairy allergies are absolutely real. But the fact is, lots of girls are using the gluten-free thing as a way to hide eating disorders -- and why not? It's the perfect cover for an anorexic:

"Why don't you ever order anything besides salad?"

"Oh, it's just this crazy gluten-free diet the doctor put me on. Believe me, I'd love to get the rigatoni."

"Whoa, you look like you lost a little too much weight."

"I know, I just can't keep any weight on because of this crazy gluten-free diet."

I'm not saying this is definitely what Miley Cyrus is doing, but I am kind of concerned about how her announcement will validate the disordered eating of young, impressionable fans.

Do you or did you ever know someone with an eating disorder? What kinds of excuses did they give for their behavior?
