Healthy Swaps to Keep Easter Weight Gain in Check (PHOTOS)

Easter foodWhen it comes to the holidays, it's hard to hold back. Who's to tell me on the one day a year that it's socially acceptable to stuff my face with Peeps (and everything else in my Easter basket) that I shouldn't!? That's half of the reason why Easter is so fun, isn't it? OR wait, maybe that's just me.

Anyway, I will always be an "eat what you want in moderation" gal. However, there are some easy swaps you can make this Easter weekend to keep the weight gain in check.

Check out our helpful Easter eating tips, here:

Easter Quiche vs. Frittata

Quiche vs. Frittata

Growing up, it was pretty standard to show up to Grandma's Easter morning with an array of breakfast deliciousness waiting for us on the table. Whereas a quiche (left) is filled with cream and cheese, frittata is essentially just an oven-baked omelet. You know what that means, right? MUCH less calories! Make it with egg whites, and you'll be doing even better.

Easter Ham vs. Lamb

Lamb vs. Ham

I was a little shocked by this one, apparently the two dishes both rank in at a little over 200 calories per 6-ounce serving. Just be careful with the ham, too much of the typical honey glaze will send you into sugar overload!

Easter Dessert

Chocolate Covered Fruit vs. Chocolate Bunny

I know, I know, it's hard to say no. But the average chocolate bunny ... you know, the delectable 3.5-ounce one from Lindt? Yeah, he has about 550 calories. A chocolate covered strawberry? About 50. Enjoy all of the good chocolaty taste without the miserable guilt by combining it with the fresh taste of fruit. Trust me, you won't be missing out.

Cadbury eggs vs. Jelly Beans

Chocolate Eggs vs. Jelly Beans

If you know anything about candy, this one's a no-brainer. Of COURSE jelly beans are a "better" pick than Cadbury chocolate eggs (even if they may be less delicious). For 12 pieces, the Cadbury mini eggs candy is 190 calories. Not too shabby, I'd say. However, you can have 27 jelly beans for 150 calories. Yes, please!

What are your favorite Easter foods? Do you keep watch of what you eat during the holidays?
