Miracle Cure Discovered for Acne that Won’t Leave You Red in the Face

thymeNo matter when it hits you -- whether you're in middle school or middle-aged -- there's nothing about acne that doesn't suck. It's just plain lame. Especially because there's never really been anything on the market that gets rid of zits without making you feel like you inadvertantly got rid of the rest of the skin on your face, too.

"May cause burning and irritation" does NOT begin to warn a girl about the red-faced nightmare hiding in that little tube of prescription cream.

And of course the milder stuff has been as ineffective as the stronger stuff is harsh ... until now, possibly!

According to research presented at the Society for General Microbiology's Spring Conference in Dublin this week, herbal preparations of thyme -- yep, plain old thyme -- could be more effective at treating acne than prescription creams. Who knew?

Apparently thyme tincture has a greater antibacterial effect than benzoyl peroxide, without all the fabulous burning/peeling/red-faced/sensitive-to-sunlight side effects.

Researchers plan to further their investigation into thyme's magical acne-fighting properties, but in the meantime, you can make your own thyme-infused treatments at home, like this Thyme and Fennel Seed Cleanser (dab on your face every morning with a cotton ball, then rinse):

  • 2 springs of fresh thyme, crumbled
  • 2 teaspoons fennel seeds, crushed
  • Half a cup of boiling water
  • Juice of half a lemon

Mix the seeds and thyme together in a bowl. Cover with boiling water and lemon juice and steep for 15 minutes. Store in a jar in the refrigerator.

Have you ever tried any natural treatments for acne?
