Adriana Lima’s Diet Trick: BYO Salad

adriana limaOne of the world's most famous supermodels walks into a restaurant in Miami. She a) orders a water and watches others eat, b) enjoys a robust meal and laughs with her friends, c) whips a salad out of her purse and asks the staff if it's cool if she eats her own fare. If the supermodel is Adriana Lima, then the answer is C. After posing in Victoria's Secret Very Sexy lingerie at an event in Miami, Adriana joined fellow angels Erin Heatherton, Candice Swanepoel, and a few other friends at Asia de Cuba for some grub. But she wasn't having anything on the menu -- Adriana BYO'd a salad of spinach, bell peppers, chicken, and oil-free dressing to the well-known restaurant because she didn't want to deviate from her strict diet.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

I'm not quite sure what to make of this. At first I thought that it sounded totally obnoxious, self-serving, and rude to bring your own meal to a restaurant. I couldn't imagine sitting down to dinner with my friends at a hot spot like Asia de Cuba and, like, stirring up my own mix of veggies at the table. But then again, my body ain't my money maker.

The Brazilian beauty makes a living looking perfect and she's gotta do everything in her power to keep herself in tip-top shape.

Enjoying a delicious meal at a delicious restaurant is, to me, one of life's greatest pleasures. And when it's the exception, not the norm, it's relaxing and fun to enjoy some well-prepared and thoughtful food made by a professional. But when you're on the road all the time like Adriana, and restaurants become part of the daily routine, it can wreak havoc on your diet. Ms. Lima knows this and has totally accounted for it.

While you won't see me toting my own spinach, well, anywhere, I see where Adriana's coming from. As long as she's gracious to the server and makes appropriate concessions, I don't really see the harm.

How do you maintain your diet when travelling and eating out? Would you ever consider the BYO salad method if you're meeting a group at a restaurant?
