10 Reasons It's Awesome to Be an Insomniac

Healthy Living 30

For the past several years, I have spent the hours of 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. wide awake while the rest of my house (the rest of the world) is fast asleep. It certainly explains why I'm always so damn exhausted and fight the urge to fall asleep every afternoon, but isn't without benefit, too. In fact, on the rare night when I actually sleep through the night, I wake up disappointed about all of the things that remain undone. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you're alone for a change!

1. You can empty out your inbox without it immediately filling back up.

2. You can fold and put away every last piece of laundry without a child depositing a filthy article of clothing in the prized empty hamper.

3. You can do all of the dishes and the sink will remain empty for hours.

4. You can eat whatever you want, without begging hands suddenly wanting a taste.

5. You can take a long shower, with all of the hot water you want.

6. You can write a blog post, uninterrupted.

7. You can mop the floors and admire them, as they remain gloriously footprint free, for at least two hours.

8. You can watch anything you want on TV.

9. You can cut your nails or pluck your eyebrows or do a face mask or shave yours legs without an audience.

10. You can pee in peace!

So, how 'bout it? Virtual date tomorrow night at 3 a.m.? I'll be there.

I often just read, in the hopes of getting tired.  last week my book INSULtED my college...like i needed to be offended at 330AM!

Agreed! When my kids were little, and used to work on my biz & do stuff around the house from about from 9am-3pm; nap while kids were in school. Only way I got anything done. Love comment #9 & SO remember doing that!

I stay up way past everyone else for these very reasons!

Ok as an insomniac I don't find this funny. I've had sleep problems for years and have tried everything. This article is like a slap in the face. Its not a joke. I lay awake for hours upon hours every night waiting to fall asleep. So think next time before you write a ridiculous article.

Sounds like it would make the morning even more painful than if I just stayed in bed and tried to relax. It is tempting to actually be alone to eat and shower but I can't imagine the exhaustion

No thanks! Sleep is SO important to ones health! Everyone once in awhile I will steal some early pre-dawn mornings for myself but other than that I think its a horrible decision to choose to deprive mind and body of sleep. It can contribute to many many health issues.

OMG, I seriously thought I was the only mom like this! I absolutely LOVE being a night owl for exactly these 10 reasons (and many MORE!)...it's the closest thing to 100% me-time I can get with a 3-year old, a dog, and a husband in my home (the 100% being they are ALL GONE from the house!). And relax, people...this article wasn't meant to insult those with true insomnia or who feel sleep is SO important to one's health. BTW, whoever wrote the health comment obviously does NOT have children (or has a nanny!)...the second you become a parent you become sleep deprived!
