Victoria's Secret supermodels tend to look like they came from a completely different universe of beautiful, so it's no wonder that when one of them spills the details of how she stays slim and gorgeous, many women cling to every word. And it's really not all that surprising that women on both sides of the pond and Down Under are fascinated by new mom and wife to Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr. After all, she did just drop her baby weight like it was nothing. How the heck did she do it?
Well, apparently, coconut oil plays a major role in her beauty and weight maintenance regimen. She revealed last month that she's been taking four tablespoons a day of the "healthy fat" (diluted in green tea or drizzled on salads) since she was 14, and it's the one thing she "can't live without." She attributed her svelte body, clear skin, and glossy hair to the supplement. Then, surprise, surprise, within weeks, sales of coconut oil SOARED!
Oh man, are we all that gullible?
Don't get me wrong. I'm pleased to hear Miranda's touting a natural supplement that probably doesn't cause any harm, and may do a body good, but is it a magic bullet for weight loss? Uhm ... doubtful.
Some quick myth-busting: The medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) in coconut oil have been said to boost metabolism and promote weight loss. I know we all wish this was really true (myself included!), but the fact of the matter is that preliminary human studies haven't really shown weight loss effects from MCTs. And the evidence is slim on other "heart-healthy benefits." Bummer.
That said, it's totally annoying that so many of us are so hard up for beauty and weight loss fast fixes that we're not even curious about what the research shows. We just think, "Miranda Kerr likes it? Sign me up!" failing to remember that uh ... the supermodel is only 27 years old with fab genes, and also follows a hardcore regimen of daily yoga, light jogging, steamed veggies, fresh fruit, and fish. Coconut oil probably doesn't hurt, but I'm sure it's not doing the heavy lifting when it comes to keeping Miranda looking fit and gorgeous. Any woman who buys into the hype will probably just end up looking foolish.
Does Miranda Kerr's love for coconut oil make you want to try it?

This sounds just like a vitamin supplement to me so if people take vitamins, I think it's okay. I personally don't but if believing helps, go for it.
I've heard it's great for your skin and diaper rash, but in a topical application, not by ingesting it.
it won't be long before we start hearing about how it doesn't really have all those benefits, and shame on the companies who made the public feel that way... remember acai berries? they were THE HOT THING to make you wonderful and glowing and amazing and skinny... and they're just berries. i'll pass.
I have been using coconut oil for years, I wouldn't say it is a weight loss secret but it is a healthy fat source. In South America they found that coconut fat was a very cheap fat source and started feeding it to the cattle to fatten them up, all the cows became extremely lean and muscular. I think it is very easy to metabolize but if your still eating pizza and junk it won't make you loose weight, but eating healthy will. It is great for all sorts of topical uses as well it is antimicrobial and anti-fungal. It makes great diaper ointment, overall great product, but I have been into health for years and have already been using these product years before they became "cool"
Getting the proper amount of healthy fats in our diets is important anyway, and coconut oil is not the only source. I use ground flax seed a lot.
That being said, what's important to realize is Miranda's coconut oil habit is just one teeny tiny detail of her overall regimen. You can't eat four tablespoons of coconut oil per day and not change any of your other habits and expect to drop 20 pounds. Doesn't work that way. She eats rabbit food and has a very expensive personal trainer. THAT is why she dropped the baby weight so fast.
No, you use it instead of vegetable or caola oil. You don't eat coconut oil AND butter (never margarine) AND oil. AND Chips. AND sugar... and and and
Coconut oil is a healthy fat and a healthy alternative to other oils.
how do I stay fit? I stay away from meat! I love fish. fruits and vegetables. If I eat fatty foods only for a week I start to gain weight ridicously. I believe in portion control. I dont wait to feel full and stop eating. I just eat resonable small portions. I eat small portions of anything. I have cake, chips and other snack foods but in very small amounts. I can stay thin without any exercise only diet. If i start to work out I get very muscular and look like a boy! and I dont like that haha
I went from 109 pre pregnancy to 167 full term. to 172 after labor to 115 now. 7 months PP,
