'Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev Promotes Powerful Pink Message (VIDEO)

nina dobrev project pinkCelebs have their choice of charities to back, so I'm always curious why they choose the ones they do. For instance, younger celebs, like the ones on The CW shows like 90210, have been spotted doing promos for breast cancer awareness, and I wonder if someone in their lives is a survivor or battled the disease? Even if it's just a cause that's close to their heart for no particular reason, I appreciate that they're using their celebrity for good. One such star is Nina Dobrev, from The CW's The Vampire Diaries. She recently teamed up with Puma's Project Pink, which supports breast cancer charities.

Project Pink has only been around for a year, and they're hoping Dobrev can inject some star power to their campaign and help them surpass the $60,000 they raised last year. And I really gotta give Dobrev props for backing the cause. Especially because she appeals to such a young demographic.

See, I'd venture to guess lots of young women who are Dobrev's fans don't even think of themselves as needing to do breast self-exams. They think breast cancer is a concern for their moms or their grandmas. But Dobrev, along with Project Pink, seems to want to help them get involved, make a difference, and simply learn more about the disease, which can affect women as young as 20-something.

Check out the sporty PSA she did here:

Hey, this is also cool: If you tweet "#projectpink" between July 6 and October 31, Puma will donate an additional $1, up to $25,000, to the ultimate beneficiary. Gotta love that!

What do you think of Nina Dobrev lending her star power to breast cancer awareness?
