When I first saw this photo of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, the first thing I thought about was definitely prostate and testicular cancer. Oh yes. Most definitely ... NOT.
He's posing buck naked for a public service ad in UK's Cosmopolitan, with two female hands conveniently covering up his naughty bits. If that's not one of the most awkward positions you've ever seen a woman in, then you look at more kinky stuff than I do. Where is the rest of her body?
But at least this woman is (hopefully) familiar with Levine's nether regions. Apparently those are the well manicured hands of his girlfriend, 24-year-old Russian model Anne Vyalitsyna.
Of course, bringing attention to this disease is super important. Nearly 200,000 men in the US are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually. But Levine doesn't say much about the issue or how it's affected him or even tips on how to check for prostate and testicular cancer. He just mostly talked about himself:
I spend most of my life naked ... In fact, I often have to be told by the people around me that it's inappropriate to be as naked as I am. But I live in California, where it's always warm, so why not?
And that's the most important thing you have to say after posing for a cancer awareness ad, Adam?
There's no denying that this is one chunk of hunky man flesh. And clearly his naked photo has got the Internet buzzing. At least it's getting the name of the UK campaign, Everyman, which raises awareness of prostate and testicular cancer, out there, but that isn't what everyone's talking about. Levine is promoting a great cause, but he's also doing all he can to promote himself as well.
Those who've seen the ad are more concerned about the hotness of Levine's tattoos than the disease, and the fact that he seems to have two arms growing out of his butt. I don't think this is the best use of media to raise awareness about such a serious disease. Checking for signs of prostate and testicular cancer at a doctor's office is far more uncomfortable for men than just getting naked.
And how appropriate that Maroon 5's last album, which was released in September, is called Hands All Over. Kind of brings a brand-new meaning to that title ... a mental image that I won't be able to get out of my mind for quite some time.
What do you think of this ad? When you see it, do you think of cancer awareness?
