Aretha Franklin Has Cancer. Forget You, Cancer.

Aretha FranklinAretha Franklin, the "Queen of Soul," has cancer, a relative reported to FOX 2 News today. Ms. Franklin, 68, recently canceled all concert dates through May 2011 due to "medical reasons" and last week underwent an unnamed surgery, which led to much media speculation. However, now our worst fears for the singer are being confirmed. Aretha Franklin is battling cancer.

Damn you, cancer.

A post from PopCrunch cites a recent National Enquirer story (take it for what you will) as reporting that Franklin has been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer, but the type of cancer Ms. Franklin is contending with has not yet been confirmed.

Unfortunately, two other celebrities -- actors Patrick Swayze and Michael Landon -- both fought and ultimately lost their battles with pancreatic cancer, which bodes a less than 10 percent survival rate. But I'm keepin' the faith for Aretha!

If, indeed, one of the most beautiful singers in the world is fighting for her life right now, let's give Ms. Franklin and her family a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T during this time. If we must DO something, let's play her music, dance to it, sway back and forth, raise our hands in the air, and love her. Let's all send lots of good stuff for Aretha Franklin's full recovery out into the universe.
