No one can say that Madonna is not fit. She's perhaps a little too fit; I personally find her gaunt frame and stringy muscles kind of terrifying and want to feed her a coney or something (they're the local delicacy here in Detroit, where both she and I are from).
So I guess she's as good a celebrity as any to open her own chain of gyms worldwide. She's teamed up with the guys who founded 24 Hour Fitness Clubs to create Hard Candy Fitness. The first one will open in November in a posh neighborhood of Mexico City.
Aside from the weirdness of associating candy with fitness, these sound like pretty nice gyms, and Madonna will be very involved in their design. She's drawing on her experience working out in gyms all over the world during tours. According to the press release, they'll have:
... a Bike Studio [and] a Mind Body Studio featuring The Great Wall, where members can practice BarWorks, Sculpting, Capoeria, and the newest trends in Yoga. It will also house a healthy alternative Juice Bar/Cafe.
The cardio and weight equipment sound pretty fancy as well, and the press release says they'll be adding classes that are developed exclusively for Hard Candy.
So far it doesn't look like there are plans to open up any US locations. I'd think about joining if one were to open in my town, as long as they could help me avoid going all "stewing hen" like Madonna as I age ... and from affecting a British accent, which I cannot mock enough. Lady, you are from Michigan. You are fooling no one.
