THAT Causes Wrinkles? 5 Sneaky Aging Culprits

1

Dang. As if our genes and too much sun weren't enough to worry about. Now it looks like we can add a few more things to the list of what to avoid to keep wrinkles away as long as humanly possible. Check out these surprising wrinkle-causing culprits that can launch a surprise attack at any time, even while you sleep. And get ready to fight back.

Surprising Wrinkle Cause #1:

Your sleep position

Side-sleeping increases wrinkles on your cheeks and chin. Sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow. And those "sleep lines" get stamped into the surface of the skin and don’t go away when you’re up.

How to prevent it: The American Academy of Dermatology suggests you sleep on your back. Do it.

Surprising Wrinkle Cause #2:

Divorce

A study from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons finds identical twins who had been divorced looked nearly two years older than their siblings who were married, single, or even widowed.

How to prevent it: Stay hitched if you can. Take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself this: How much is it worth to me to look two years younger?

Surprising Wrinkle Cause #3:

Washing your face too frequently

Tap water strips your skin of its natural barrier oils that protect against wrinkles.

How to prevent it: Don't let that precious protection go down the drain. Wash your face twice a day tops unless your doctor recommends otherwise.

Surprising Wrinkle Cause #4:

Your computer

When you're on it too long, you tend to squint. Read: crow's feet.

How to prevent it: Step away from the computer for 15 minutes every two hours. Invest in a flat-screen computer monitor, which is easier on the eyes. And cut back on squinting by taking time to blink more often.

Surprising Wrinkle Cause #5:

Yo-yo dieting

Some experts believe that years of repeatedly stretching your skin -- when you gain and lose weight over and over -- may damage the elastic structure that makes your skin firm.

How to prevent it: Lose weight at a reasonable pace -- one to two pounds a week. And learn how to keep it off in a healthy way. Your face will thank you.

With so many wrinkle forces working against you, isn't it nice to know there are things you can do to save face?
