P90X Challenge Week 1: Making It Fit Your Life

weight-loss week 19I've been regularly working out and eating better for a little over six months, so I'm not exactly an expert on health and fitness, but I sure have learned a lot this year. And, I've officially lost 29 pounds (back down to 149 this week, thank goodness), which might give me a little credibility.

What I wanted to talk about today, though, was something I've learned about long-term fitness success and that's making sure exercise fits into your life and not that your life has to mold to fit exercise.

I know this may sound weird to some, and I certainly don't mean that you shouldn't be willing to sacrifice to make health and fitness a priority, but you can't sacrifice so much of yourself and topple everything completely over in order to work out and exercise and expect to maintain that level of intensity forever.

Instead, in my opinion, you have to make sure your life feels as it felt before, just that much better.

You have to replace an hour of television with an hour of running or wake up a half-hour earlier to squeeze in part of the P90X video. The transition has to feel right and good and, most importantly, sustainable.

When I decided to take on the P90X challenge, I was worried I wouldn't be able to squeeze the workout into every single day, especially with work trips and BlogHer and family time on the calendar. I talked it over with my husband and he said something really inspirational to me, which was, "Just because you can't do it perfectly doesn't mean you shouldn't try it at all."

And that's kind of how I've looked at everything this year. I can't do anything perfectly, but I can try different things to make my overall life better. So, I'm doing the P90X video as I can, and I'm still running as I can, and I'm eating as healthy as I can (which sometimes isn't nearly as healthy as I'd like), and I encourage you to do the same.

Do what you can! When you look back, you'll realize just how much that is.

I'll be back next week to talk a little bit more in detail about the P90X workout itself.

What new challenge you are taking on this week?
