Photo by Seattle Municipal Archives In the battle of the sexes, who's the better gyno?
I've had both male and female gynecologists, and I've experienced pros and cons with each.
While no one can argue the most important thing about your gyno visit is that you actually show up, just how important is the sex of your gyno?
Think about all the things you can (and probably should) be talking to your gyno about -- PMS, birth control, your sex life, menstruation, your fertility, your breasts, maybe even sex toys. Do you feel free to discuss all that and more with your current gyno? If not, is it because of his/her sex?
In my experience, male gynos are by far gentler. I've had some rough paps in my day, all at the hands of female gynos. I can only speculate that male gynos are more gentle because they would want their important parts to be handled the same way. So maybe female gynos aren't as gentle because they know how it feels (painful, but short lived)?
If I'm being honest, I do tend to worry more about "grooming" when I see a male gyno. And don't even get me started on the time I saw a gyno who was a dead ringer for Peter Facinelli! (Remember the Friends episode where Rachel hit on her ob/gyno? Yup, it was kinda like that.)
That being said, my current gyno is a female -- partly due to her convenient location, partly because she's laid-back and cool.
What about you?
Take the poll and then tell me, why do you prefer a male or female gyno?

I've always had female gynos. For me, I just feel she has the same parts so she must have paid really good attention in med school.
Never been to a gynocologist (and never plan to), but my GP is female. I don't want to be that intimate with a male doctor, assuming I have a real choice. Why add that level of complexity to something that is already stressful?
A male masseuse, that's a different story.
I stopped caring about this when I was pregnant with my daughter. Up until then I'd always preferred female gynos, but I met my current gyno when I had to see all the people in the practice while pregnant, and I love, love, love him.
He's got a great bedside manner, and that made the difference during labor. At that point, I didn't care who saw my lady parts, I wanted someone who was on my side.
I want a female OB, but I don't care about the gyno, though I'd PREFER a woman.
The only male person that should be inspecting me that closely is my husband. End of story.
Male and only male doctors for me. I have yet to meet a female doctor that was nice and competent enough for me to trust.
I had an excellent femal gynie for several years. Also, I tend to feel less self-conscious with female doctors. However, none of the female gynecologists that were recommended to me were available now, so I have a male doctor. He's wonderful and I have no problem seeing him.
mines male hes very gentle gave me my first pap even though i was terrified so ill keep him untill i moe or he retires
generaly my rule with doctors is if i find one i like i dont want to swich because you might get a shitty doc and then cant get back in with the goodd doc happend to my dh
