When it comes to exercise, you can't get simpler than running.
It's inexpensive. All you need is feet. Running shoes definitely help, though :)
It's easy. Walk outside. GO!
It works. Calves, thighs, butts, core, arms. The whole body is engaged. Just look outside your window right now. Someone is running.
So what are you waiting for? National Running Day 2010? Good, because that's today, so there's no time like the present.
National Running Day June 2 is a joint effort by numerous organizations that promote running to get folks who've never tried it to take the first step toward fitness. You can even take advantage of some contests. New Balance, for instance, is giving away 24 pairs of sneakers not yet released in stores.
If you can't run yet, walk and work up to a jog if you can. I'm a terrible runner. I'm slow and look ridiculous doing it. But I still love it. And I get results. Keep at it, and you'll be amazed how far you can go.
