Smoothies
make a great summer snack, and many of them are great sources of nutrition. But even the healthiest one can be made better with an added ingredient: Oatmeal.

Yes, oatmeal. I know it sounds a bit ... lumpy, but if you do it right, it can be delicious. And oatmeal is a nutritional powerhouse that packs in tons of fiber (soluble and insoluble) as well as protein, Vitamin E and many other nutrients.

Thekitchn has some good tips about how to get your smoothie to the right consistency.

"The trick is to grind the oatmeal into a powder before adding it to the smoothie. You can usually do this right in your blender. Just measure out around a quarter cup or so of oatmeal (per smoothie), give it a whir in the blender, and then add the rest of your smoothie ingredients."

It doesn't matter which ingredients you start with; fruits and vegetables of any kind will work.  Just add the powder to your favorite combination and blend away.

Have you tried oatmeal in your smoothie?
