Ilina Ewen isn't a mom who pulls punches. This "left-leaning" mother of two lets it all out over on her blog Dirt & Noise, and we love her all the more for it.

She's helping us celebrate Mother's Day the way she always does: with no-holds-barred truth about how she came to be a mom.

I never wanted to be a mother.

As a girl, my imaginative play never included weddings, babies, or boyfriends. I used to line up my collection of dolls from around the world and stage my very own lilliputian Miss Universe Pageant.

Susan Wagner is a mom who believes workout clothes are for working out and “casual Friday” will be the downfall of Western civilization. In other words? She doesn't dress like one of "those moms." And she helps the rest of us avoid the mom jeans trap with her writings on her blog The Working Closet.

She's here to help us celebrate Mother's Day with a look at the day she gave up the big bag full of her kids' stuff and her own:

I’ve always been a big bag kind of girl; even before I had kids, I hauled around a gigantic handbag full of I don’t know what. It was all super important, though, and I needed all of it with me all of the time.

    I’m over that.

Shannon Des Roches Rosa goes by Squid Rosenberg in the interwebs, where she writes about being a mom to three -- including Leo, who has autism. Her blog, Squidalicious, is equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. We love her so much, we know you will too.

To help us celebrate Mother's Day, here is one of her magical mom moments: when her son on the spectrum was just like everyone else's kid playing in the local park:

Leo has socializing opportunities aplenty -- around town, with all the people and kids who come to visit and swim and cook with us, during excursions. But those interactions are all heavily managed, to help him avoid sensory overstimulation, and so he won't pull a frustrated HULK SMASH on me, his sisters, or unsuspecting passersby. It breaks my heart to write this, but: he is not a free-range boy, not in scenarios where other children are running wild. It's too risky.

Tina Seitzinger never pictured herself being a mom who'd be trying to survive in a "testosterone-filled" world, but she is! And she writes for all the moms who know what it's like to be the only one with estrogen in their household at her blog Life Without Pink.

We love the way she makes being a mom in an all-male world work, and here, in honor of Mother's Day, we present Tina's memory of the moment when she realized she would be parenting two boys ... and no girl:

As far back as I can remember, I always envisioned myself having a daughter one day. I guess I never thought that it was possible that I might never have one.

When I was pregnant the first time, my hubby and I knew it was a boy from day one. Even though we never found out the sex ahead of time, we always referred to the baby growing inside of me as “him”. I loved the fact of having a boy first, to protect the daughter I would have one day.

Mother's Day is often that special time of year where you get a little card and some extra hugs, but no matter how hard we wish it all away all the grunt work is still there. Sometimes, even, the dishes may seem a little dirtier; the little ones, a wee bit brattier. Maybe the kids still want to play their videogames and ignore you and yet you still have to cook dinner and pick up the seemingly never-ending trail of Cheerios carelessly dropped all over the kitchen floor.

Not this year, mamas. What if we went on strike? Said screw it? These moms in this video did. I'm not cooking! I'm not cleaning! I'm going to blow up the washing machine! I'm done. I quit. I'm going on strike today. All sung to the tune of "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twister Sister. Check it out.

Ever think about the mundane things we do, as moms, every day -- day in and day out? The little things ... the things that we would most certainly miss if they were to stop tomorrow. I have been thinking a lot about what being a mom means to me -- and so with that -- I have made a promise to myself to start appreciating my kids, and the time we have together, more. To not just get through each day -- but really enjoy each day -- because before we turn around these adorable little kids of ours will be all grown up.

Below are 26 things that I truly love about being a mom every day ... the moments that I sometimes take for granted ... just because they are a part of the daily routine.

Call me a sucker, but I love Mother's Day cards. I read all these quotes about motherhood, I feel like I'm a superhero. At least for a day.

Of course, I tell my husband every year not to bother buying me a card, because it's just going to end up in the recycling bin ... not because I don't care but because we have a 6-year-old who brings home about 16 worksheets every day. There is only so much paper we can save! This is why I love the Internet: I can save all those lovely quotes about why being a mom is the bomb right where I can get at them: on my computer, on my iPhone, oh, and right here, on The Stir!

What would Mother's Day brunch be without sparkly pink cocktails? (Boring and sad, that's what.)

I'm not talking about your everyday, run-of-the mill Cosmo, either -- this Mother's Day, why not mix it up a little?

Pomegranate liqueur, edible flowers ... these fun and fizzy concoctions are guaranteed to put Mom in a great mood.

You know, the kind of mood that makes her forget about those 364 other days of the year when nobody appreciates anything and a "thank-you" would be nice and ... here Mom, have another cocktail!

Ah, Mother's Day. It's that one day of the year when we all (hopefully) stop to think about all our mothers have done for us. Some choose to wax poetically about all of the amazing love and support they have received from their mother over the years, or give tear-inducing recounts of the bond they share or the hurdles they've overcome together. And that's fine, but when it comes to motherhood, sometimes the most appropriate sentiment is laughter.

Especially as a mother myself now, I know that you have to have a sense of humor when it comes to the challenges we face, otherwise, we'd all be locked up somewhere with padded walls. So if your mom is one who likes to see the humor in her role too, here are six awesome eCards (including the hilarious one above about the dumpster) to show her how much you love her and love laughing with her.

Michelle Horton of Early Mama is all about redefining what it means to be a young mom and her writing is so good and beautiful we all want to take the journey with her.

See her Mother's Day post below:

Noah is obsessed with magic wands, which he makes from just about anything that’s long and skinny. Just in my eye shot, I see two tree sticks, a plastic golf club, a drum stick, and an empty paper-towel roll — all his magic wands. And that’s only a fraction of his wand hoarding.
