Melissa Ford is a blogger who people love for her honesty above all. Her blog Stirrup Queens gets a lot of traffic and it's easy to see why.

As one fan says: "She's funny and is honest about the struggle with infertility in a relatable way. She makes it less of a taboo." Thank goodness there are bloggers like her. Here is her post in honor of Mother's Day:

We were driving to a friend’s house when my daughter suggested that we move to the beach much in the same tone she uses to suggest that we have pizza for dinner or watch the Muppet Show before bed. Low-impact decisions.

I explained about house sales and finding a new school and new doctors and new friends in this new location, and finally, she agreed that maybe it wasn’t very realistic. Especially because Josh’s job was back here in the city, three hours away.

My daughter came home from school yesterday and told me that her best friend had a “hate list.”

scaleSarah Chang is a mom trying to navigate the mean streets of Manhattan with a stroller. She writes about raising a bi-cultural daughter at The Stroller Ballet.

To help us celebrate Mother's Day, Sarah has shared the scary pediatrician edict that hit her right in the guts:

Overweight.

It’s a word I never imagined could be used to describe my 3-year-old. I thought -- and still think -- of Peanut as “fine”. She’s small, but solid. Without so much as the suggestion of a belly. She’s active -- she’ll walk up to 1 mile without complaint.

letterSili is the chief executive mami to a little girl she calls the frog princess. And she still finds time to write about life, liberty, and the pursuit of Maminess on her blog My Mamihood!

To help us celebrate Mother's Day, she's shared her "user manual for life." Here are all 21 bits of advice for her little girl and little girls around the world:

I have so much that I want to share with you. So much that I want to make sure I tell you. But I know that as time goes by, it doesn’t matter what I say to you. You will record what you see, what you feel. This blog started off as a way for me to document My Mamihood and you are the sole reason for that. I pray I am able to show you the nuances of life, but just in case that doesn't happen, I plan on leaving a user's manual.

I Never Wanted to Be a Mother

motherIlina Ewen isn't a mom who pulls punches. This "left-leaning" mother of two lets it all out over on her blog Dirt & Noise, and we love her all the more for it.

She's helping us celebrate Mother's Day the way she always does: with no-holds-barred truth about how she came to be a mom.

I never wanted to be a mother.

As a girl, my imaginative play never included weddings, babies, or boyfriends. I used to line up my collection of dolls from around the world and stage my very own lilliputian Miss Universe Pageant.

My Big Mom Bag Wasn't My Kids' Fault

mom bagSusan Wagner is a mom who believes workout clothes are for working out and “casual Friday” will be the downfall of Western civilization. In other words? She doesn't dress like one of "those moms." And she helps the rest of us avoid the mom jeans trap with her writings on her blog The Working Closet.

She's here to help us celebrate Mother's Day with a look at the day she gave up the big bag full of her kids' stuff and her own:

I’ve always been a big bag kind of girl; even before I had kids, I hauled around a gigantic handbag full of I don’t know what. It was all super important, though, and I needed all of it with me all of the time.

I’m over that.

A Letter from the Mom of That Autistic Boy Your Kid Played With at the Playground (VIDEO)

LeoShannon Des Roches Rosa goes by Squid Rosenberg in the interwebs, where she writes about being a mom to three -- including Leo, who has autism. Her blog, Squidalicious, is equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. We love her so much, we know you will too.

To help us celebrate Mother's Day, here is one of her magical mom moments: when her son on the spectrum was just like everyone else's kid playing in the local park:

Leo has socializing opportunities aplenty -- around town, with all the people and kids who come to visit and swim and cook with us, during excursions. But those interactions are all heavily managed, to help him avoid sensory overstimulation, and so he won't pull a frustrated HULK SMASH on me, his sisters, or unsuspecting passersby. It breaks my heart to write this, but: he is not a free-range boy, not in scenarios where other children are running wild. It's too risky.

Longing for a Daughter Will Pass -- Mine Did

it's a boyTina Seitzinger never pictured herself being a mom who'd be trying to survive in a "testosterone-filled" world, but she is! And she writes for all the moms who know what it's like to be the only one with estrogen in their household at her blog Life Without Pink.

We love the way she makes being a mom in an all-male world work, and here, in honor of Mother's Day, we present Tina's memory of the moment when she realized she would be parenting two boys ... and no girl:

As far back as I can remember, I always envisioned myself having a daughter one day. I guess I never thought that it was possible that I might never have one.

When I was pregnant the first time, my hubby and I knew it was a boy from day one. Even though we never found out the sex ahead of time, we always referred to the baby growing inside of me as “him”. I loved the fact of having a boy first, to protect the daughter I would have one day.

'Moms on Strike' Video Features Your Mother's Day Anthem

on May 13, 2012 at 9:50 AM

motherhood the musicalMother's Day is often that special time of year where you get a little card and some extra hugs, but no matter how hard we wish it all away all the grunt work is still there. Sometimes, even, the dishes may seem a little dirtier; the little ones, a wee bit brattier. Maybe the kids still want to play their videogames and ignore you and yet you still have to cook dinner and pick up the seemingly never-ending trail of Cheerios carelessly dropped all over the kitchen floor.

Not this year, mamas. What if we went on strike? Said screw it? These moms in this video did. I'm not cooking! I'm not cleaning! I'm going to blow up the washing machine! I'm done. I quit. I'm going on strike today. All sung to the tune of "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twister Sister. Check it out.
