This 10-Year-Old Girl Being Reunited With Her Teddy Bear Will Bring You to Tears

Mom desperately searches for daughter's teddy bear left during the Ft. Lauderdale shooting

So many families' lives were changed on January 6 when a gunman opened fire on travelers inside the Fort Lauderdale airport -- killing five people. Since the tragedy, many have been trying to find ways to pick up the pieces and go on with their lives. But for Kim Lariviere, that meant searching for a sentimental object her 10-year-old daughter Courtney left behind. Thankfully, this little girl has been reunited with her lost teddy bear, which means more to Courtney than we'll ever know.

Courtney's teddy bear, Rufus, might look like an ordinary bear, but it is priceless. Her dad gifted her this snugly stuffed animal before he died when she was just a baby (how sad!) -- making Rufus an indispensable member of the family.

Sadly, Courtney was carrying Rufus in the Fort Lauderdale airport (the Lariviere family was on their way back to Canada) and lost him during the scuffle to get to safety after the gunman opened fire -- prompting her mom to later contact the Broward County Sheriff's Office and Fort Lauderdale airport on Twitter to try to locate him.

Needless to say, this mom is so thankful for the efforts the Fort Lauderdale airport and Broward County Sheriff's Office made to locate this teddy bear, but she hasn't lost sight of the heaviness from that tragic day.

It's hard for me to imagine myself -- my family -- in a situation like this. I can't even fathom being in Kim's shoes and having to cover my little ones like a human shield before running outside.

And to think of losing Rufus, Courtney's beloved teddy bear -- and one of the last gifts a father gave to his child before passing away -- during this whole catastrophe is saddening. As Kim told Today, "My daughter has never slept a night without him. Every flight, every water park, camping, slumber parties, everything. He is irreplaceable."
