14 Ways 2017 Might Actually Be Looking Up

The world of pop culture and politics and trending news has voted and concluded: 2016 sucked. A lot of people died. The election was painful, no matter which side of the aisle you're on. Even Brangelina broke up, for God's sake. Not a lot of good came out of 2016, and for the most part, 2017 isn't looking like it'll be a lot different. But we're trying to look on the bright side, okay? And there actually is a decent amount to look forward to this upcoming year, even if the world might end and all that.

From impending celeb babies and celeb marriages we're rooting for to tech and TV premieres, here are 14 ways 2017 is already looking up.

1Betty White

2016 took a lot of things from us, but it could not take Betty White. Whether you want to thank luck, the $9,000 plus from the GoFundMe campaign that was started on December 26 to "protect Betty White from 2016," or Betty herself, the fact remains that we have more time with our universal grandmother, and every day we get to spend with her is a treasure.

2'Baywatch' Remake

Yo, you KNOW this is going to be good. Whoever's idea it was to remake Baywatch with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Zac EfronPriyanka Chopra, and Alexandra Daddario is an actual genius, and you betcha we'll be first in line to see this when it comes out on May 26.

3An Obama Memoir (Maybe)

We're going to have to say goodbye to the Obamas in an official capacity in 2017 and we all know that's going to be sad. But the silver lining is that once their political duties are mostly over, both the Obamas will be available to write and release post–White House memoirs. We won't say whose we'd be more excited for, but one or the other is coming this year, we feel it.

4Kim Kardashian's Return to Social Media

It's been sad and lonely on social media since Internet queen Kim Kardashian stopped posting (likely because of the emotional trauma of being allegedly held at gunpoint and robbed in Paris last October). But Kim is making her return in 2017 -- as of early January, she's Instagrammed, tweeted, and Snapchatted. She's back, baby, and we can't wait to see more.

5A Cyrus-Hemsworth Wedding (Finally?)

A big question mark here because we don't know anything for sure, but there are signs that point to a 2017 wedding for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. Miley's been wearing her engagement ring again, the two are reportedly living together, and Us Weekly reported that they're planning to do their small beach wedding soon.

6The Carrie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds Documentary

The back-to-back deaths of mother-daughter duo Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in December was beyond tragic, almost more so because of the upcoming documentary about their relationship. But because of their passing, the release date for Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynold was pushed up, and now it'll be available to watch on January 7 on HBO.

7Beyonce's Coachella Performance

While it's true that 2016 brought us "Formation" and the gift of a Beyonce Super Bowl halftime show appearance, 2017 will bring us a headlining Beyonce show at Coachella. She's the first woman to headline the festival since Bjork in 2007 and the progressive, politically charged nature of her music will hopefully do something to negate the influence of Philip Anschutz, the super conservative president of Coachella's parent company. It'll also be amazing, no matter what. It's Beyonce, after all.

9A Possible One Direction Tour

2016 was our first full year with a post-Zayn One Direction, and if all the boys' promises come through, 2017 will bring our first full tour post-Zayn. Niall and Harry have both said things along the lines of "duh" when asked about the possibility of another tour, and we really do think 2017 will be the year.

10The Women's March on Washington

Just watching the Women's March on Washington grow and attract hundreds of thousands of protesters has been exciting enough, but 2017 brings the march itself. Its size will likely make history, and we can't wait to see it all happen on January 21.

Happy New Year! I have a feeling 2017 is going to be the best year yet...

11Celebrity Babies!

Celeb babies are always something to look forward to, and this year promises to bring us a lot of exciting ones: Lauren Conrad, Marion Cotillard, Natalie Portman, Amber Tamblyn, Katherine Heigl, Ciara, and Jill and Jessa Duggar are all due this year. We bet there will be some exciting baby names from this bunch.

12George Michael's Documentary

Just before his death, George Michael's team confirmed via his Instagram that his documentary, Freedom, was, in fact, happening, and that it'd be released in March 2017. It'll be sadder because of his passing, but also more sweet. We can't wait.

13Nick Viall Will Finnnaallllyy Find Love

Whether you're a fan of The Bachelor or not, at this point, how could you not want Nick Viall to find love? He's tried and failed to start a relationship on The Bachelorette or one of its offshoots three times now, and at this point, we really just want him to be done. 2017 is that year, friends.

14Final Season of 'Girls'

Since its beginning, Girls has been talked about. A lot. Good things and bad things have been said, but we can't see the talk slowing any this year -- Girls airs its final season in February, and it promises to be good. But we'll be sad to see it go.
