With all that's happening in the world (chaos, hate, and terror), it's always great to be reminded that there are still good people who have the biggest of hearts -- like this generous patrol officer. Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer Tidwell surprised a foster mother's kids with a random act of kindness after pulling the mom over when he noticed the two boys weren't in car seats.

Officer Tidwell was in his right to pull the mom over, as anyone would be concerned if he or she saw small children who weren't strapped inside car seats -- let alone, in a vehicle that didn't have any.

The unnamed foster mother explained in a Facebook post shared by the Tennessee Highway Patrol page:

When he [Officer Tidwell] came up to the car he asked 'Why are the two boys in the back seat not in car seats?,' my answer was the two little boys were my foster sons who I had just got the night before. I showed him paper work and explained to him that when I got them they had the clothes they were wearing and that is about it. No carseat, no toys, no coats, and so on.

He asked me for my phone number. I gave it to him.

Though there doesn't appear to be any details about what happened to the mom right after she was pulled over, one thing is very clear ...

Officer Tidwell and his wife have hearts of gold.

"This morning Officer Tidwell met me in Waverly. Him [sic] and his wife had purchased gifts for the boys," the mom mentioned in the Facebook post. "Not just the two boys in the back seat but their older brother too," she added.

So wonderful!

I don't know why the mom didn't have car seats for her children before they came into her custody, but I can't help but give her the benefit of the doubt, as I don't think any mother would want to put her children in harm's way. (I know I wouldn't.)

Stories like this truly warm my heart given all the strife and hatred that's too common for my comfort. Officer Tidwell is a good man who had compassion for a foster mother and made her and her family's holiday an unforgettable one.

As the mom wrote, "I can not [sic] thank him enough for the kindness he has shown these three boys. I never asked him for anything. He and his wife acted out of the kindness of their hearts."

I've been fortunate enough to know many amazing cops. I'm also blessed to call one Dad.

Thank you, Officer Tidwell, for helping to restore my faith in humanity. A simple act of kindness can truly go a long way, and you inspire me to do more for others.
