8-Year-Old Arson Victim Gets a Special Christmas Card -- from President Obama!

All little Safyre Terry wanted for Christmas was enough cards to fill her Christmas tree-shaped card holder, and boy, did people ever step up to the plate. Among the tens of thousands of cards she received was a special one directly from the President and the First Lady.

The 8-year-old was badly burned in a deliberately set house fire three years ago. She lost three younger siblings in the fire, and her dad died by cradling her in his arms to protect her from breathing in the hot smoke. Her mom is not in the picture, so she's being raised by her father's sister, Liz Dolder.

Thanks to Dolder's Facebook page, Safyre Schenectady's Super Survivor, she was able to share her niece's wish to receive Christmas cards. The request went viral, and Liz posted this week that the Obamas even sent her a greeting card and a note.

Safyre had the honor of getting a card from the President, First Lady and family.THANK YOU Mr. President and First Lady <3

Michelle Obama wrote her a personal note. She said, "When the President and I heard your story, we wanted to be sure you had a White House holiday card to add to your collection ... You sound like such a brave girl and you have inspired so many people around the world, including Barack and me."

The First Family is hardly the only to send cards and letters to Safyre. American Greetings also created an online form to send 14,000 cards to this sweet girl. By signing up, people could have their name signed inside one of the cards and shipped to Safyre.

What an inspiring little sweetheart. After everything she's been through, she has such an amazing attitude, and I love that she just wanted Christmas cards. The holidays should be magical for all kiddos, and I'm so happy that she got her Christmas wish.
