Woman Gives Homeless Person Shoes Off Her Feet & Starts Chain of Kindness (PHOTO)

homelessI think we can all agree that watching the news lately has been difficult and heartbreaking. From Paris, to Syria, to even here in the U.S., it seems every day brings a new story of pain, loss, or despair. As we move into Thanksgiving week, I'm happy to see a story that reminds us of the capacity we all have for kindness. And it all started when a woman took the shoes off her feet and gave them to a homeless person.


New Yorker Kay Brown was riding the subway last week when she noticed a woman with no shoes on, despite the cold temperatures. Brown offered the woman her shoes and described the encounter to her friends and family.

Now, that story alone is a heartwarming reminder that we all have a LOT to be thankful for this week, but I love that this has started an even bigger chain of kindness. Since her story started getting shared, Brown has been able to use her "15 minutes of fame" to do even more giving.

According to Brown's Facebook page, she is also looking at pairing up with J.Crew for a shoe donation drive and with KIND snacks to donate snack bars to the needy. What an amazing example of the power of a good pair of shoes -- and a giving heart!
