Images of Homeless Teens Are So Stunning We Can't Look Away (PHOTOS)

Now this is what inspiration looks like. The Portrait Project, put together by the folks at Art Start, is likely to change the way you view homeless teens. Shelter kids were asked about their hopes and dreams, and how they would like the world to see them. This is what happened.

The teens were styled and photographed by professional photographers, who all donated their time and resources to the project. The goal here is to shift the conversation about homeless youths from one of sympathy and frustration to one of hope.

In a statement, Johanna de los Santos, co-executive director for Art Start, explained, "At a time when NYC homelessness is at record highs, one of Art Start's missions is to start a dialogue about what it means to be seen."

I can't even imagine how lonely and isolated some of these kids must feel. How amazing that this group has decided to not just listen to them, but also encourage them by immortalizing their dreams in a piece of art. I hope that each of these kids felt like they mattered, and that you don't have to be defined by your circumstances.
