8-Year-Old Girl Helping Syrian Refugees Proves Anyone Can Make a Difference (VIDEO)

This is such an inspiring story! Charlotte Tristan -- who is only 8! -- is running a weeklong fund-raiser to help Syrian refugees find food, shelter, clean water, and other necessities. And it isn't the first time she's been involved with humanitarian aide.

This grade school gal has already raised about $10,000 for charity, thanks to her YouTube videos, which have generated nearly 6,000 views. Her most recent cause is helping the 12 million or so people fleeing Syria in the midst of their current civil war. About half of those refugees are children, like Charlotte herself.

Her parents couldn't be prouder of her, and her mom credits the family's sponsorship of another little girl in a developing country when she 5 for lighting the fire under her to help others.

Charlotte spoke with compassion about the Syrian refugees. "When I think of myself cold, tired, being in need of something to eat, I would not enjoy being in that position," she said. "I want to put out the message that even if you're a little girl like me just 8 years old, you can make a big difference in the world."

This story speaks to the truth that anyone can make a difference, no matter who they are. What awesome and amazing parents this girl has, to support her so wholeheartedly. It's a testament to their character that they are so willing to build hers with encouragement for her humanitarian projects.

We need more people like Charlotte and her parents in the world, who will take just a little bit of time to raise awareness about the very real struggles people around the globe are facing, and who have the heart to do something about it.
