Veteran Who Lost Both Legs Proposes to Girlfriend -- With the Bush Family Looking On (VIDEO)

tyler jeffries proposalTwenty-six-year-old Tyler Jeffries lost both his legs while on a mission in Afghanistan in 2012. Our hero's incredible strength, bravery, and perseverance has taken him very far. He's also walking with prosthetics  and a cane, and was able to get down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend Lauren while visiting with presidents George W. Bush and George H. W. Bush. It was even the younger Bush who convinced Jeffries to propose.

While visiting the Bush family home in Kennebunkport, Maine, Jeffries was speaking with the presidents and told them that he was planning to propose to his girlfriend later in the day. First Ladies Barbara and Laura were also there. Our 43rd president reportedly said, "You need to get her here!" Jeffries did just that and when Lauren arrived, President Bush said, "You're the girl we've been waiting on."

The sweet moment was captured on video for us all to get emotional over. Proposals get me teary every time. This proposal, by a hero who has overcome so much, takes on a whole other meaning. And seeing him able to get down on his knee, and how his girlfriend (now fiancée) is so quick to say yes, and watching as the Bush family is looking on with love and admiration ... it's just so beautiful and brings happy tears to my eyes.

President George H.W. Bush also tweeted this photo and message after the big moment. This also marks the first sighting of the elder Bush after breaking a vertebra. I think the entire Bush family will also get a wedding invite!

I'm sending so much love to this sweet couple. And a personal thank-you to Jeffries who is a true hero and an inspiration. Happiness always.
