Getting More Than You Give

Many high schools require their students to perform a certain amount of community service hours to graduate. And many high school kids spend way too much time and energy balking about it.

But, every now and then, an opportunity comes along that changes the meaning of community service. The kind of gesture that makes a difference not only to the recipients but to those who are donating their time and efforts.

Between April 6 and May 3, you have an opportunity to make a real difference as Walmart joins ConAgra, General Mills, Unilever, Kellogg’s, Kraft and Campbell’s to fight hunger by strengthening local food banks through Feeding America.

With 1 in 6 people in America struggling with hunger, Walmart has launched a campaign with the belief that every family should have access to food. The Walmart Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign not only directly helps fight hunger but is raising awareness through social media.

In order to meet their goal, they have teamed up with six leading suppliers to fight hunger in local communities. Check it out here, but basically, it works in three easy ways.

  • PURCHASE specially market items at Walmart

For every participating product purchased, the suppliers will secure one meal* on behalf of Feeding America and their local food banks.

  • DONATE at the cash register

  • SHARE on social media and tag your friends!

Just grab your phone and snap a photo of six people who are committed to fighting hunger in your community. Make it a public post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #WeSparkChange. For every public post, Walmart will make a $10 donation to Feeding America and their member food banks (up to $1.5 million!).

Help get your kids involved. They’ll see how little effort it takes to spark change and how helping others ends up helping them as well!

How do you teach your kids to make a difference?

*For every participating product purchased at Walmart between April 6th and May 3rd, 2015, the manufacturer will donate $0.10 to Feeding America® - enough to secure 1 meal on behalf of local food banks – up to each manufacturer’s maximum donation. Each manufacturer’s maximum donation is provided on the participating packages. See package or Walmart.com/FightHunger for details.
