You Won't Believe Which Celeb Took a Selfie Before It Was Cool (PHOTO)

iphoneWho do you think invented the selfie? It's definitely not who you suspect. Kim Kardashian may have perfected the art of the selfie, but she's a far cry away from being the inventor. As it turns out, a selfie was taken about 60 years ago in the 1950s, long before everyone else was doing it. And you'll never, ever guess by whom ...

Colin Powell! Yes, the 76-year-old former Secretary of State! Powell posted a vintage selfie to his Facebook page on Thursday -- looking dapper, I might add -- along with the caption, "Throwback Thursday -- I was doing selfies 60 years before you Facebook folks. Eat your heart out Ellen!" One of his followers came up with the awesome hashtag, "#SecretaryofSelfies."

So far, Powell's photo has been liked over 105,000 times and shared by over 25,000 people. Some say he's trying to beat the record of Ellen's Oscar selfie, which has become the most retweeted selfie in history, and I think the man's got a shot. Sure, a celeb-packed selfie is pretty exciting, but so is one of the first selfies ever taken. We're talking culture relevance here, people.

Whether Powell beats Ellen's record or not, I think most people are just glad he shared it. It's crazy to think that there was a time when he wasn't a four-star general or an American statesman. He was just a dude alone in his room, trying to get a good shot of himself. Bonus points for not making duck face.

Who takes a better selfie: Kim Kardashian or Colin Powell?
