Baby Who Stopped Breathing on Plane Miraculously Saved Mid-Flight

flightIt has to be one of the single most terrifying things a parent could ever experience: Their baby stops breathing while thousands of miles above ground, on a flight. But for one child's parents, this horrifying situation was a reality. A baby stopped breathing recently while on a flight from Tampa, Florida to Phoenix, Arizona. According to reports, the child turned purple and the parents started screaming for help.

But you'll never guess who happened to be on the plane.

Garrett Goodwin, a man who teaches CPR for a living, was on the same flight. The minute he heard the cry for help, he jumped to the baby's aid. "I did chest compressions, cleared his mouth, gave him some rescue breathing, stimulated him. He came back around," said Goodwin. He added, "Absolutely you're scared, but your training kicks in. I was at the right place at the right time with the right experienced training and I hope anybody with any amount of training would have done that." Talk about luck.

But it wasn't just Goodwin who jumped to the baby's rescue. Apparently, numerous people immediately ran to the baby to see if they could help. And the flight was even diverted to Houston so the baby, who is okay, could receive medical attention. Some people evidently missed connecting flights, but according to reports, no one cared. Everyone was just happy the baby was okay.

When I think of what this poor child's parents went through in the horrifying moments their child wasn't breathing, my stomach turns. They probably thought that was it. Thank goodness there was someone on board who knew how to administer CPR properly. And thank goodness this little boy is okay. Phew!

Do you know CPR?
